Since the 20th anniversary of Luis de Lión's assassination, a great deal of new critical work has begun to appear. One such paper is available on line: "Luis de Lión y la persistencia de la tradición retórica maya" (pdf) by Laura Martin, which argues that the seemingly radical narrative style of the novel is in fact a modern rendering of traditional Mayan rhetorical forms and structures. The article contains a recent bibliography. This novel should be considered for advanced Spanish literature classes.
